This is a super cool/hot (pun intended) story of a local family! Kellam Mechanical announced in October that we were searching for a local family hit with life challenges in need of a new comfort system. We found a local family and offered them a free installation. Judie and Mike live in Virginia Beach. They opened a restaurant at the oceanfront just before COVID-19 attacked. They struggled to keep the restaurant doors open, working double shifts while experiencing difficulty staffing while trying to comply with strict COVID restrictions and supply shortages. They had to close the restaurant 2 months ago. They jumped back in the workforce, one at another local restaurant, the other for a handyman company to support their family of 5. They had a 2004 heat pump in their home that limped through the summer heat not able to adequately cool the home. Naturally, their 3 kids grumbled about their discomfort. As winter weather set in, they chose not to turn the heat on due to fear of a safety issue with a failed fan motor. They have been heating their home with a fireplace and a space heater. On 11/23/21 Kellam Mechanical decided to solve their comfort and financial challenges by installing a brand new 2021 comfort system. It has been our pleasure knowing we have improved the indoor air experience for a deserving, hardworking local family.

In the middle of a late July heat wave in 2006, a drunk driver crashed into a utility pole on Holland Road which knocked power out at the Virginia Beach SPCA. When power crews restored service, three of the air conditioners in the SPCA facility were single phased. Two were completely destroyed and the main unit was severely damaged. After the story aired on the local news reporting sweltering conditions, noting that some windows could not be opened to relieve some of the stagnant heat, Scott Kellam and his lead technician showed up the next day to donate labor toward a new York unit which was donated by Virginia Air Distributors. With the help from Kellam Mechanical and some other local caring businesses, the animals in the shelter were comfortable within 24 hours. We are proud to support our local SPCA.
